DUNDAS, ONTARIOFashion design students at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School have been busy crafting items to help improve end-of-life care at a Hamilton hospice.

In addition to pillow cases being made for patient at Margaret’s Place Hospice, the students embarked on a project creating hand-sewn, palm-sized hearts called Hearts for Hospice.

“When someone passes away in our care, the staff and volunteers join the family in an honour guard procession,” said Brianna Kennelly, the hospice’s manager of community engagement. “During this heartbreaking time, we want the family to have this handmade heart. A matching heart was placed in the hand of their loved one in their final moments of life and will continue the journey with them.”

Kennelly picked up hearts and pillow cases from the students on Monday.
