#VillaHeroes: Bonded by a family tradition
.
.
Sisters Maria and Maureen, and their niece Nicole, have a deeply rooted history at St. Joseph’s Villa. They have served over 70 years collectively at the Villa, and in that time, have seen uncles, aunts and parents come through as residents.
Of those 70 years, this year has been the oddest. COVID-19 protocols have forced them to remain six feet apart, with PPE hiding their familiar smiles, putting boundaries on the family connection they once felt at work.
But you can’t separate family at heart. And you can’t stop them from looking towards better days ahead.

Kate Gallant is a loving mother, loyal friend and a #VillaHero.
As a therapeutic recreationist (TR), Kate plays an essential role in maintaining the quality of life and well-being of St. Joseph’s Villa residents. But the past year has challenged her and her colleagues remarkably. The TR team had to be creative in providing care, altering their typical day programs and social activities to keep residents safe.
Though the year has been challenging, it hasn’t come without its silver linings, including more one-on-one time with residents.
“The most fulfilling part of what I do is building these relationships with residents – listening to their stories and memories, and getting to know about who they are and what makes them them.”
